Past and present are woven together at Gundsømagle.

A special brick paving creates a coherent courtyard between the historic thatched parish hall and its modern extension. Carefully designed in high-quality materials, this small space will form a poetical framework for important life events in generations to come.

A timeless space

The courtyard consists of a few carefully selected materials that compliment the historic environment and succeeds in creating a contemporary space that will last. The main and most prominent feature is the beautiful dark Gottland brick in an extra long format. With its rich color variations and tactility, it manages to bind together the existing materials with the new additions.

The brick paving will patinate beautifully and last for a very long time. In the middle of the courtyard, we have planted an oak. In time it will become the most important feature in the space. The tree will bear witness to life in the village, as baptisms, confirmations, weddings, and funerals will take place. Hopefully, it will grow as old as Gundsømagle Church.
