Say hi to Thomas…

Please join us in giving a warm welcome to Thomas Lindtorp Pedersen, who joins us as our new Landscape Architect at our Copenhagen office.

Thomas brings professional experience from Opland, Danielsen Urban Landscape, and Juul Frost Arkitekter. In addition to his experience in professional practice, Thomas has also taught at the University of Copenhagen, where he earned his master’s degree in landscape architecture in 2021.

Thomas argues that landscape architecture is currently gaining momentum, which is also changing the role and status of the profession.

“As awareness of climate change, biodiversity loss and the quality of our public spaces grows, landscape architecture is becoming much more visible to both the public and politicians. As a result, landscape architecture is moving from being a niche discipline to becoming a central part of how society responds to major challenges.”

According to Thomas, it is the ability to combine technical, ecological, and social perspectives into one coherent design that makes landscape architecture unique and valuable.

“Landscape architects’ expertise and responsibility are more important than ever. Along with creating great landscape architecture, we also have a responsibility to communicate the complexity of our profession and the many considerations behind every successful project. Good landscape architecture improves everyday life while helping cities become more climate resilient and biodiverse. I also think modern landscape architecture is about making thoughtful use of existing resources by working with what is already there, reusing materials wherever possible, and intervening as little as possible,” says Thomas.

When not in front of a computer Thomas likes to spend time outdoors. He has been skateboarding for more than 20 years – actually, it was his interest in Copenhagen’s skate scene  that first drew him from his native Funen to Copenhagen and eventually led him to discover landscape architecture.

Recently, he has developed a passion for bouldering, and enjoys hiking and travelling with his girlfriend, always looking for new landscapes to explore. He also enjoys building and creating things – from skate parks and festival event spaces to converting a camper van and renovating his own apartment.
