Previously, the entrance to Tjørnegård School was relatively anonymous and dominated by a large parking lot. By optimizing the parking areas, a substantial space was freed up and converted into welcoming arrival zones that naturally draw the surroundings into the school grounds, integrating the school with its neighbourhood.
The overarching goal for transformation of landscape surrounding Tjørnegård School was to create a schoolyard that doubled as a vibrant community hub, reinforcing the school’s identity and its role within the local area.
The new outdoor areas form a playful hilly landscape with winding paths and varied play and recreational spaces. Along the facades, greenery has been planted, framed by seating edges that create resting niches of different scales. Edges, slopes, and surfaces are designed cohesively to support multifaceted play, relaxation, and learning.
Around the central access area, the existing pergola structure has been transformed into an inviting recreational and activity space, offering covered seating with features such as chess tables.
A diverse landscape has been created to meet different needs — whether users want to be physically active, hang out, or something entirely different.
The standout feature is the state-of-the-art basketball training facility, designed for use by both the pupils and the local basketball club.
The basketball facility is designed by Streetball Consulting.
