The new Central Library will be located in the heart of Helsinki city, surrounded by several iconic buildings such as the Parliament House, Central Railway Station, Finlandia hall and Kiasma museum of contemporary art.
The library will be located in an important node for public transportation and a new underground tunnel for traffic going across the city centre. The library building opens up to a new outdoor space for recreational use and pedestrian transportation, merging the densely built city centre with the large green areas of Töölönlahti Bay park.
The new library park consists of a large square area connecting important pedestrian routes with public transportation and a lush green area with a variety of recreational facilities.
The new rooftop garden attached to the Central Library offers several activities for the public together with a spectacular viewpoint overlooking the city.
