Since 1947, the Finger Plan has served as the basis for inter-municipal planning of the metropolitan area’s urban development, overall infrastructure, and green wedges. However, the core idea that citizens should live in the ‘fingers’ and commute to a central city is outdated and insufficient.
Furthermore, the original plan doesn’t address current challenges caused by climate changes such as excessive rainfall, decreasing biodiversity and a increased social divide.
Therefore, Arkitektforeningen – with economic support from Dreyer Fonden – initiated an open competition for holistic development and updated strategy for the greater Copenhagen region.
Our proposal, “Mere Landskab, Mere By – A Blue-Green Landscape First Strategy for the Transformation of the Capital Region”, has been awarded shared second place in the Fingerplan 2.0 competition.
Our vision places the natural environment at the core of urban transformation.
By prioritizing green and blue corridors, we propose a resilient, climate-adapted strategy where nature, biodiversity, and social equity thrive in harmony.
Our strategy consists of five key interdependent actions.
