COMPETITIONS LEAD TO DISCUSSIONS AND NEW KNOWLEDGE

Not every competition is a win. But every competition leads to new discussions and new knowledge. Usually we team up with building architects, engineers and experts in different fields, who brings new perspectives and ideas. It’s the perfect setting for pushing our field into visionary thinking and helps us develop as landscape architects.

This time we had teamed up with Lendager Group, Everyday Studio, and experts Julie Holck, Lars Lundbye, Morten Birk Jørgensen and Morten Foli. Unfortunately we didn’t get to develop our ideas further for the competitions of the development of Årslev and Sdr. Nærå, outside of Odense. Our proposal didn’t get to second phase but it is one of those projects that we will keep referring to. Especially in relation to strategically development in smaller towns, as well as areas of more rural character, that requires a different toolbox compared to the dense city. Furthermore the two towns are situated in a very characteristic landscape and this became a study of how to built in such a landscape without degrading existing qualities.

You can read the jury report or see the proposals for phase one at Polymeren in Årslev from 5th to 19th of June.

Connect the new neighborhood with the existing, Build organic from culture drivers and create a network based town as opposed to the centralized city

This is the main strategy. We connect three new housing areas to the existing structure, divided by green areas to maintain the connecting to the landscape. Each area is community based and derived from existing resources and opportunities.
